ABSTRACT

We now move on to looking at two aspects of what we have defined as play that makes it different from some other modes of making sense of the world and of learning. We examine here how children across the world move on from asking what something is and what it does to examining what the child herself can do with it. This brings in the important concepts of agency and ownership. Agency is the notion of the child being in control of what she does and ownership means that the child is able to develop her own concerns.
