ABSTRACT
Classifications can be made of many phenomena. Data on a local population might be gathered and used by a local authority to plan health, education, leisure and other services and facilities. Among the information a local authority might wish to know is the different age groups within the population. They might want to establish how many of the population are aged 0 to 5 years, 18 to 25 years, over 70 years old and so on.
