ABSTRACT
How dowe use race? Chapters three, four, and five developed a description of how race persists today through the social institution of specific mechanisms. Against a perception that structural explanations suffice, the argument was that the intersubjective definition of race lies at the center of a critical race politics. We need to find a way to conceptualize what race does, how it reproduces in spite of our effort to change its social description.
