ABSTRACT
Cultural policy obviously concerns governmental and philanthropic funding for arts and culture, but it also encompasses a range of issues such as freedom of expression, international cultural and artistic exchanges, intellectual property questions, and the effect of corporate consolidation on the nation’s artistic life. [. . .] On a still broader level, cultural policy addresses basic democratic concerns: matters of identity, diversity, and social harmony; innovation and creativity; and civic engagement and discourse.
