ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that the practice of journalism ethics reflects the specificity of the context in question. The point of reference is the practice of journalism in Zambia which has been subjected to differing influences. These influences have manifested themselves in three interrelated historical epochs – colonial, postcolonial and globalisation (Banda, 2007). While the formal aspects of colonialism may end at the historical point of the colony’s political independence, the effects of colonisation have much more profound legacies that must necessarily be endured by the postcolony.
