ABSTRACT
Different from patent scope, patent breadth protects against technologies that have a slightly superior or inferior quality than the patented one and belong to the same technology field. Patent breadth affects first and foremost cumulative inventions, i.e. inventions that directly build upon each other and can therefore be regarded to be improvements upon the predecessor.
