ABSTRACT

Most colleges and universities expect assistant professors to move through the Promotion and Tenure (P & T) process within the first six years of their academic career. As a result, the P & T process is a critical, valued, and necessary component of most faculty members’ academic trajectory. Specifically, the significant distinction evidenced when one achieves P & T (e.g., assistant professor to associate professor) or moves from associate professor to full professor cannot be overstated.
