ABSTRACT

An ESAM provides a framework for describing the structure of an economy in terms of links between production, income distribution, and demand within a region’s economy, and also provides a concise framework for synthesizing and displaying the data on a region’s economy. Chapter 5 showed some frameworks that included linkages to the environment. Introducing not only the environment but also sustainability into an ESAM is an attempt to improve on past regional economic models. This chapter proposes models of how to account for sustainability in order to include it into an ESAM.
