ABSTRACT

A city become region one hundred kilometres in length and barely one hundred years deep,6 Perth is a vastly suburban city, made for the most part from single buildings on individual plots of land, forming an extensive footprint tenuously spread between coast and escarpment. Private city concerns an argument that public space is not a quintessential aspect of habitation in Perth as a city whose developmental and recreational interests lie with the coast, and with the possession of the private home and vehicle, rather than with the core.
