ABSTRACT

Auditions are unlike any other acting environment in which you’ll find yourself. From the moment you hear about the casting, you develop a strange inner feeling, like building up to a blind date. You desperately want this to be ‘The One’ and that they’ll like you as much as you like them, but you don’t want to invest too much in it, in case you’re disappointed. In this chapter, we’ll look at the conditions surrounding auditions,

their purpose and the expectations involved. There are several excellent books detailing how you prepare yourself, so this chapter examines more broadly the extraordinary nature of performing in auditions, and some strategies for handling the uniqueness of the experience.
