ABSTRACT
Starting with a text and examining its features might not be the best way to enthuse young learners. In fact it could be an extremely dreary and dispiriting start! Here I look at some ways of making report and explanation enjoyable and relevant to children’s thinking and enquiry. These thoughts apply to children as they move from the nursery and Reception classes to the end of the primary years.
