CNN is a cable television network that is widely credited for introducing the

concept of 24-hour news coverage, which gained the spotlight in 1991

during the Gulf War. It was founded on 1 June 1980 in Atlanta, USA, by

Georgia businessman Ted Turner, together with Reese Schonfeld, a former

manager for UPI Television News. It is a division of Turner Broadcasting

System, now owned by Time Warner. Its coverage spans a large part of the

globe, with its branded networks and services reaching more than 1,500m.

signal is said be within reach of 98% of the world’s population.
