ABSTRACT
This chapter elucidates the research design: the explanandum, including some definitions drawn from the literature on regulation; the theoretical framework, which integrates the governance literature with traditional EU integration theories and with the political economy literature on EU financial market integration; the operationalisation of the research; and the sources for data gathering. The design outlined here is applied in a systematic manner to the empirical record in the following chapters.
