ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter analyses approaches to religious education currently developed by theorists and researchers in the subject, linking this to the academic study of religion. Five different approaches are the main focus of this chapter. The chapter will analyse these approaches, link that analysis to the pedagogical issues raised in Chapter 2 and ask the question as to what extent RE can regard itself as a discipline. It will then summarise the ground covered in Part 1 of this book, the first three chapters.
