ABSTRACT
This chapter will consider the importance of pattern in teaching and learning mathematics. Pre-algebraic concepts will be explored with suggestions as to how practitioners can provide them. Creativity in music, cooking, dance, nature and play provide opportunities to exploit pattern at home and in early years settings. Connections will be made between pattern, number and algebra.
