ABSTRACT
An academic enterprise that began very modestly by simply seeking to bring together people of conflicting opinions, different disciplines and assorted professions and nationalities to discuss an international issue of common concern ended with rather more than a friendly, but sometimes heated, exchange of views. We were the entrepreneurs of the venture and it seems to us to have produced an implicit but resounding challenge to much conventional thinking about the study of international problems.
