ABSTRACT
The development of a theory of law by the Italian jurists of the Middle Ages was closely linked up with the general spirit of medieval philosophy. It was in the terms of Christian cosmology that legal theorists attempted to arrive at a rational and scientific explanation of the origin, nature, and scope of law.
