The Third Space

The ‘Third Space’ is another concept in contemporary cultural theory instantly

associated with the work of Homi K. Bhabha. Although Bhabha himself does

not elaborate extensively on this concept, he presents it as the ‘precondition for

the articulation of cultural meaning’ (Bhabha 1994: 38), thereby situating the

Third Space at the centre of his discussions on cultural difference and cultural

productivity.
