ABSTRACT

People usually just step on them or pass them by, but stones can speak. Stones talk to us. ey tell us of the past-their builders, a style of life long lost, and maybe a sense of

a culture and society. Stone has a wonderful quality: it lasts through the worst weather and most dicult periods. Once, in certain regions, stones were the ubiquitous building and tool-making material: arrowheads, fences, towers, houses, tombs, and structures we don’t really understand.
