ABSTRACT
Many texts on research methods deal with technical issues and, as a consequence, are not always useful to a researcher when unpredictable situations crop up, as they often do. You will undoubtedly find yourself confronted with circumstances for which orthodox methods learned from texts or coursework, even research assistantships, are ill suited. First-rate scholarship advances, but the keys to success are likely to be the creativity, perseverance, and training of the researcher.
