ABSTRACT
In the years immediately preceding the Dissolution the number of girls attending the nunnery schools had grown. The reason for this was the disappearance during the Wars of the Roses of the feudal system, which had provided a home and training for many girls under the wing of the lady of the manor. Then, too, the convent had become a temporary haven for those children who had lost their parents and homes in the fighting.
