ABSTRACT
FASCISM, RACISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM Fascism is the most blatant institutionalised form of violence. We cannot begin to understand it unless we grasp that the indignities and subordination people suffer grow out of changing social relations. Relatedly, to understand the rise of the New Right and authoritarian politics is to engage with the form of these power relations in the particular historical context out of which they grow. It is to think about the dialectical interrelation between forms of institutionalised power, including masculine power, and people’s experienced needs and the negation of those needs. Deskilling and what it does to masculine identity, traditionally organised around work, is a facet of this.
