The future city centre book
Most city centres with a strong historical core area are likely to survive and to grow in the future. They will continue to be where businesses want to locate their headquarters and face-to-face contact remains a deciding factor. It is unlikely that even the most sophisticated video-conferencing systems will replace this. The traditional core area will have the capability of offering a rich variety of supporting elements – shops, cultural activities, restaurants and hotels – which cannot be found elsewhere in a defined area and increasingly in the future more people will choose to live there as the quality of the environment improves.
