ABSTRACT

Dyslexia is far more than just a label – it is a life style. As a label it is associated with many different meanings and emotions. For some people, being told they are dyslexic is a moment of liberation: ‘I was so anxious you were going to tell me I was thick. Knowing I’m dyslexic is the best day of my life.’ For others, being told they are dyslexic is a surprise: ‘I thought dyslexia was all about writing letters backwards. I don’t do that so I thought I couldn’t be dyslexic.’
