ABSTRACT

Buber wishes to establish a two-way relationship between the human being and God: the human being is not totally submerged in God but stands vis-a-vis Him as an independent or semi-independent partner; furthermore, God too is independent and not just an element of subjective experience. The awareness by human beings of this relationship between man and God, based on the independence of the two partners, may be Buber’s underlying “p hilosophical intuition” as well as the driving motive for his general view of mutuality.
