ABSTRACT

By way of preface, I wish to reply positively to the central question ‘does the prospect of a general sociological theory still mean anything today, in the time of globalization?’ The road map I will follow is drawn, on one hand, upon a revision of classical theory, and on the other hand, on the construction of an epistemological and ontological framework which is seen as a necessary condition for the building up of a new general sociological theory appropriate to the current era.
