ABSTRACT
One of the world’s most spectacular archaeological sites is found in the highlands of northern Laos.1 Set within Xieng Khouang Province lies the Plain of Jars. Massive jar-shaped stones, carved of sandstone, dot the windswept landscape. The origin of these megaliths remains a mystery and indeed their enigmatic history is part of our continued fascination.2
