ABSTRACT
The preceding chapter surveyed the contemporary reality of women in Latin America. Despite some progress, women continue to face greater hardships in their daily lives, and more obstacles to advancement, than men. Many women are unable to obtain quality and affordable health and reproductive care. When women enter the labor market they are typically relegated to lower paid, less secure positions. Women have less control over land and productive assets than men and are more likely to live in poverty.
