ABSTRACT
This research advocated the existence of a powerful cultural myth of the intelligentsia and explored its influence on the identity project of one particular group of Russian intellectuals – the shestidesyatniki. At the same time, I have also demonstrated the converse influence of the challenge faced by the shestidesyatniki, which resulted in their creative reconstruction of the traditional cultural story.
