ABSTRACT

SCHOOLS ARE COMPLEX PLACES. Not only will they have a number of adult employees, which means they range from a small to a very large business, they will also have pupils for whom they are responsible who can number from twenty plus in a small rural school to over 3,000 in a large sixth form college. Not only do these pupils have to be educated, they are not adults and so the school is responsible for their safety. There are many government directives and initiatives, local influences and parental wishes, all to be considered. No two schools are alike, even in similar localities with similar intakes and buildings. People make the difference. Schools are organic, living, always changing.
