ABSTRACT
Under what circumstances did young people in this study become homeless? The answers to this question enable us to shed light on two issues. First, the stories they told about leaving home allow us to understand in a uni®ed way the multiple circumstances surrounding this event and their interrelationships. Second, our four pathways were not developed on the basis of young people's entry into homelessness. Hence, the stories we report here enable us to determine the impact, if any, of the young people's reasons for leaving home on their subsequent journeys through homelessness. We take each pathway in turn.
