ABSTRACT

The reasons for binding are manifold and include the organization of information and the maintenance of serials content for both research and historical purposes. Many smaller libraries have staff that are responsible for all the functions of a serials binding project under one staff member, whereas larger ones do not. This introduction will give an overview of the technical staff processes behind the binding process. The information contained is the most practical and applicable in nature, helping the reader in all aspects of beginning serials binding. It is my hope that this book will encourage sound binding practices for the small to medium-sized library. International libraries with no previous binding experience will also be intrigued by this material because it provides collection development and collection maintenance information.
