ABSTRACT

The fundamental element of tourism is its attractions. The United States has no shortage of human-made and natural attractions that draw hundreds of millions of visitors each year. The diversity of its cultural and natural landscapes creates a condition where nearly every type of attraction can be found. Fundamentally, three types of attractions exist in the USA: cultural, natural, and entertainment-oriented. The country’s native peoples and later immigrants created landscapes and communities that exude significant appeal among tourists. The immigrant landscapes of urban America (e.g., Chinatowns and Little Italies) maintain their footprint and provide an important element of the attractiveness of cities.
