ABSTRACT

Sigmund Freud identified three personality (libidinal) types: the erotic, the obsessive, and the narcissistic.3 “Narcissism” equates with “exaggerated concern with the self ” and “excessive self love.” “Narcissistic Character” represents “a personality pattern characterized by excessive self-concern and over-evaluation of the self.” When these traits predominate, a “Narcissistic Personality Disorder” eventuates, leading to “[a] clinical diagnosis of a disorder characterized by grandiose ideas of self importance, need for attention and admiration, feeling entitled to special favors, and exploitation of others.”4
