ABSTRACT

For many workers and prospective workers, impression management connotes creating a good impression when conducting a job search. To a lesser extent, impression management connotes creating a positive impression on the manager during a performance review or appraisal. In this chapter we review and integrate representative research about impression management for purposes of the job interview, traditional and video résumés, and the performance evaluation. We also present several representative recommendations for using this information to conduct a successful job search. Figure 8-1 organizes the information in this chapter according to the amount of research substantiation.
