ABSTRACT
The basic assumption of epistemological constructivism ± that knowledge does not consist in the discovery of a given reality but in the construction of our own experience ± has several implications which were discussed in Chapter 2. In the clinical domain the most important implication is relative to the therapist's absolute necessity, in order to act in therapeutically effective ways, to understand how the clients organise their experience of themselves, other people and the world. It is the clients' organisation of experience, their lived world, which represents the inescapable starting point of the psychotherapy process.
