ABSTRACT

The principal methods of integrative TA are enquiry, attunement and involvement (Erskine et al., 1999). The combination of these in integrative TA creates a sensitive, empathic therapy.

Enquiry

Enquiry is subdivided into areas of enquiry: phenomenological enquiry, enquiry into the client's history and expectations, enquiry into coping strategies, choices and script decisions and also enquiry into the client's sense of vulnerability (see also Point 19) (Erskine et al., 1999). Enquiry is done from a position of respect for the client and their process and from a place of genuine interest in the client. The purpose of enquiry is to generate increasing awareness and to promote internal and interpersonal contact (Erskine et al., 1999).
