ABSTRACT

Relational approaches to TA psychotherapy pay particular attention to instances of therapeutic alliance rupture. A rupture is a moment where the therapeutic alliance comes under some sort of strain. The genesis of pathology is considered primarily as a result of repeated relational rupture, and the enactment of relational ruptures in the therapy is viewed as inevitable (Guistolise, 1996). The subsequent consistent and repeated repair of these therapeutic alliance ruptures is considered to be a primary healing process in psychotherapy (see point 77).
