Using Berne's four methods of diagnosis

Berne identi®ed four methods of diagnosis needed for accurate diagnosis of ego states (Berne, 1961). Although in practice behavioural diagnosis is the most commonly used for initial diagnostic purposes, to form or verify an accurate diagnosis, all four methods must be used. These methods were originally developed for diagnosis of ego states, but can be adapted for a range of diagnostic purposes.
