ABSTRACT

UNFORTUNATELY, JUDY’S SITUATION IS NOT UNUSUAL. Worldwide, thepopulation is growing older, and all societies will face special challenges in caring for their elders. As health care improves and new technologies become available, individuals, families, and communities will face a plethora of issues surrounding needs and services for the elderly. Because of these challenges, there is an increasing need for social workers who are trained in gerontology and who can negotiate the complex individual, relational, and societal needs facing older populations.
