ABSTRACT

Fantasy has been defined as making the impossible seem possible. This is a useful

notion because it highlights the importance of believability, not just in Fantasy tales

but across the genres. The points made in Ideas for a reason (Module 54) can

be revisited and emphasised here if a pupil wants to write a Fantasy story. Fantasy

enjoys an ongoing popularity in books and films and so it is a rich source of ideas

that pupils can build into their own work – see the note on ‘imitate, innovate,

invent’ in the pupils’ section on Genre (Module 37). Fantasy also appeals equally

it seems to both boys and girls.
