ABSTRACT
The different degrees of horror From years of visiting schools I know that all too often Horror stories can be the
bane of an English teacher’s life! The dilemma is that Horror might motivate
otherwise reluctant writers (usually boys), but the outcomes are often excessively
violent, gory and derivative. There is also the issue that revolves around the use of
magic and other supernatural motifs. This same problem crops up in Fantasy too,
which also makes use of witches, spells and other occult ideas.
