Teacher’s notes Pupils often say they get stuck trying to have ideas for stories, or else they rely very
heavily on material they have already seen or read. There are a number of reasons
why this can happen:
Lack of reflecting or metacognition They have not been taught the skill of metacognition, which is noticing and then reflecting upon one’s own thoughts. Begin by asking pupils to imagine a
pleasant place. You can ask individuals what particular details come to mind.
