ABSTRACT

Certainly the largest, arguably the most influential, and indisputably the most well-known sector of the religious-settlers movement, Gush Emunim presents a fascinating case to explore when considering the impact of rhetoric on the political arena. Although Gush Emunim never formally divided into different organizations within the same movement, its members clearly divided themselves into ideological, rhetorical and practical camps when proposing actions in the political process. And the same principle that was seen in both the American and Egyptian cases can be seen in the case of Gush Emunim as well. This is particularly interesting because Gush Emunim remained a single organization but still benefitted, and then later suffered from, its impact on the political sphere in which it operated.
