ABSTRACT

Looking through the glossy company annual reports and their sometimes rather formulaic corporate governance reporting statements may lead one to ask how well corporate governance is really understood among controllers of China’s resources companies. How well are good corporate governance standards practiced in reality? What are the roles of major stakeholders in corporate governance? The discussion in this chapter is based mainly on interviews with controllers of leading resources companies and government offi cials from China’s two mainland stock exchanges and the corporate regulator, the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC); this will help us build a better picture of corporate governance practices within these resources companies in China.
