Wider scoping of relevant literature

This chapter presents an initial investigation into participation across a number

of disciplines and subject areas as a means to identify other possible concepts

of relevance to wider social participation in architecture. The areas of Environ-

mental Psychology; Widening Governance; Housing; Planning and Regenera-

tion; Facilities Management and Post Occupancy Evaluation; and Product

Design were considered relevant for this study, as identified in Chapter 1. The

scope of potential literature relating to participation within these fields is exten-

sive and hence this chapter needs to be seen as a ‘scoping’ exercise to identify

key issues for possible further investigation.
