ABSTRACT
This chapter presents an overview of the contemporary context underlying the socio-political and economic factors influencing the immigration process; those determining why people in Eastern Europe leave their countries and those that attract them in other regions. It also includes a comprehensive demographic profile of Eastern European immigrants with information on issues such as human capital (education), gender, and ethnic identity.
