ABSTRACT
The first question asked by the Greek philosophers concerned physis and nature, or the cosmos. We call the first period in Greek philosophy, from about 600 to 450 Bc, ‘the cosmological period’. But a change took place around 450 Bc — at the same time that democracy began in Athens. This change was partially caused by the internal dynamics of early Greek philosophy and partially by political conditions.
