ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the indicators and practical (i.e. not just the ideological/theoretical) examples of the nurse as behaviour change agent in the form of the aims, processes, impact, outcomes and evaluation criteria of intervention of this traditional model of nurseled health promotion. Primary, secondary and tertiary health promotion are discussed together with the nature of behaviour change, communication and behaviour change theory, compliance, adherence, concordance and the ‘medical model’ and its associated socio-political values.
