ABSTRACT

Standardized tests are tests that are administered and scored in a predetermined, standard manner (Popham, 1999). Standardized test results have been used in a variety of decision-making contexts, some inappropriately and with unfortunate consequences. Educators have used the test results to identify and place students into programs and the effectiveness of programs and schools has been determined by such scores. While schools and teachers should be held accountable for our children's learning, it is generally believed that standardized tests provide only one measure of student progress.
